BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed lower Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.1 percent, at 3,427.33 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.61 percent lower at 14,253.53 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.25 trillion yuan (192.36 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.22 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to cement led the gains, while those related to Chinese Baijiu (distilled spirits) and food processing suffered losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.61 percent to close at 3,192.9 points.
